The glue-free construction allows for each A.H. Beard Origins mattress to be more easily disassembled and the components separated for recycling at the end of its life. We continue to work closely with the Australian Bedding Stewardship Council (ABSC) and leading mattress recyclers, Soft Landing, to find new uses and recycling methods for mattress components. Recycling technology is constantly evolving, so we anticipate new second-life uses for each component will be developed in the near future. At present, the steel from the springs and micro coils can be recycled and turned into items such as metal roofing and railway tracks. The non-woven fabric pockets that house the springs can be turned into plastic household items, like garbage bins and storage tubs, while the wool can be processed with other organic matter, and have a second life as padding blankets and insulation.
